What information does the installer need?
Provide the car make, model, year and registration, plus the scooter or wheelchair make and model. Tell the team whether the equipment has been modified and whether accessories or seating will stay attached during loading.
- Equipment weight in the exact condition in which it will be lifted.
- Overall dimensions, including the folded size if relevant.
- How many passenger seats must remain usable.
- Who will connect the lifting attachment and operate the hoist.
- Photographs of the equipment and boot, including the opening and floor.
Why lifting capacity alone is not enough
The weight to check is the load being lifted, including anything remaining attached. The installer must confirm a suitable lifting attachment and the compatibility of the equipment with that attachment.
A hoist may be rated for a load that still will not pass through your boot opening or fit inside the car. Loading also needs enough space for the hoist arm and equipment to move without striking the vehicle.
Check the complete loading routine
Ask to see the steps you will perform: preparing the equipment, connecting the attachment, guiding it through the opening, lowering it and securing it for transport. Consider whether you can reach the controls and attachment comfortably.
Check remaining luggage space and passenger seating. Ask how the installed hoist affects the boot floor, whether equipment must be folded or dismantled, and how the load will be secured.
What should a boot-hoist quotation cover?
Request confirmation of the hoist, lifting attachment, fitting and any vehicle-specific work. Ask about handover, servicing, warranty and transferring the installation to a future vehicle.
Vehicle and equipment compatibility should be confirmed before purchase. Photographs and measurements help the initial discussion, but they do not replace an installation assessment.
General buying guidance. Confirm compatibility, specifications and the complete installation with the team before ordering. A guide cannot determine an individual’s driving, seating or transfer suitability.
